Frequently Asked Questions

How do I begin a project with HOMEing? +

Simply get in touch (via e-mail, WhatsApp, social media…) to set up an initial consultation. It’s always nice to get to know each other in person. During this meeting we will discuss your design needs. We will talk about your preferences, your family, household habits and hobbies, functional needs, and desired outcome for your home. All of this will lead us down the right path in defining your unique style. My goal for every project is to realize the vision of the homeowner. Initial meeting is with no obligations.

What should I bring to the initial meeting? +

Any inspiration images that you have collected, such as from magazines or Pinterest, will help further uncover your style and direction. If you have an original plan of the house – get it ready. Your favorite objects, clothing combination or a purse, image of a place that makes you happy – anything that tells a story about you is welcome. It might also be a good idea to have some pictures of styles you do not like, so we stay away from it during your design project. Don’t worry – even if you don’t have anything and have no idea what your style is, I will bring material that provokes conversation and we will figure out together.

Can I afford interior design help from a professional? Is it worth it? +

You can often save money (and time) by hiring an interior designer. You can avoid costly mistakes and purchases by utilizing a designer’s professional services up front, rather than during a redo of a space that did not suit your needs or desires.

A designer knows how to use furnishings, colors, and art to make a small space look larger. A strategically placed things and right usage colors can do wonders for increasing visual depth. Breaking a room into different areas can add dimension. You will be amazed at how well the right interior design can turn your living space of any size into a functional and homey environment.

What is the most important factor of good design? +

Having a clear vision of what the end result should look like is essential.

If you are not sure, the services of the interior designer can be priceless. Before you go out and start buying pieces of furniture and artwork that do not mix, get help narrowing down your design and theme. Some colors complement while others clash. You want your space to reflect your personality and be functional and inviting at the same time.

And even before that – critical view by an experienced architect at the functionality and possible gains with changing the layout can transform the space in unexpected ways. Open a wall here, close somewhere else, extend or connect rooms – discover hidden possibilities and don’t miss any chances for extraordinary home!

Do I get a cool 3D rendering? +

3D representation is essential for understanding space and ideas. Since we are always trying to be smart with design hours, we work with dynamic models that are updated along the process to clear up dilemmas and represent state of the design. A rendering can take 1-2 days. It’s typically not a great use of time, especially if the ideas presented were off-base. Accent is on the process and good communication during all stages of the design. All choices are presented in most efficient way – 2D layout, technical documentation, 3D model, overview of choices and furnishing – whatever it takes to best communicate what to expect, sometimes even moving boxes around and marking with tape on the floor and walls. If at the end you like to get photorealistic renderings of the final design – sure, we’ll make them!

Can you help me pick paint colors and nothing else? +

Sure!

Wall color (and lighting) is one of the most important aspects of a beautiful space; however, picking paint colors is a task that is more difficult than many would like to admit. We start with a total design in mind. During the paint selection process, we will look at final mood you want to achieve and at the end of our second meeting, you will have a list of all of the paint colors and surfaces that we think would look great in your home.

What is a typical project like? +

Each project is unique. The first step is to setup the initial consultation, so we can discuss exactly what you are looking for and see if we can help. We will gather all necessary information to be able to define clear project task.

Over a series of meetings and e-mails, we will take what we’ve learned about you and your style and turn it into a thoughtful design for your home. We will present you with furniture plans and color palettes to ponder, fabrics and materials to touch and see in your space, and images of furniture and lighting we’ve thoughtfully selected specifically for your home. If desired, we will create photo-realistic renderings with our selections so that you can truly visualize your space before making any final decisions. We take your budget seriously and work hard to balance special, splurge-worthy pieces with every day, cost-conscious decisions.

Depending on the scope of your project and the timeliness of your decision-making, this phase can take a couple of weeks (for one room) to a few months or more (for a full-scale design or remodel). Your feedback is vital during design, and everyone is unique, so we will adapt the process to best fit your communicating style to ensure translating your needs into the perfectly designed home of your dreams.

What is the difference between custom furniture and in-stock or retail furniture? +

Custom furniture is built-to-order, which means it can be sized to our specific needs, and we can choose our own finishes, fabrics and details. The furniture is designed to fit exact space and style of your home. We can build in lighting, chargers, pull out shelves, whatever you can think of for the best function. Custom is a go to solution for odd corners and weird angles. Contrary to popular opinion that that customized furniture is expensive, you have flexibility when it comes to spending.

With retail or in-stock furniture, all choices have already been made and size and finish options are limited. As a result, retail doesn’t offer the same unique look or personal feel we might be trying to achieve.

Custom furniture is one-of-a-kind. HOMEing works with the best craftsmen for highest quality.
