Plants bring nature and warmth to your interior. From small one-pot gardens and groupings of small pots to indoor trees – this season plants are everywhere, also at unexpected places – on walls or hanging from a ceiling. My favorites: fiddle-leaf tree, fern, jade plant, and succulents. We will also see more and more furniture that can be used both in- and outside.
2. Think big
Cozy and oversized sectional sofas, as well as oversized lighting, furnishings, even oversized art on the walls – great focus for 2016.
3. Mix modern & rustic vintage
Fusion styling is not so new, but still all the rage in 2016. It’s all about combining things you wouldn’t think of putting together. It is also a great way to keep things you just don’t want to throw away yet and mix them up with some state of the art designs. So dare to recycle, repurpose, rethink and reuse to create modern and surprising space.
4. Nomadic furniture
Modern life is everything but static, so modern furniture is following. It has wheels and handles and gives a sense you can carry it around so you can just get up and go to the other side of the world.
5. Cocoon chairs
I just love this one! It’s a place to reconnect with yourself, to take back control, to just be yourself; it’s like a safety blanket that wraps around you.
6. Nature prints
We will see tropical plants and birds on wallpapers and fabrics. Flowers are back, but more refined than ever. Be prepared to be surrounded with exotic and (not so) exotic animals and plants, from pillows to rugs. And when thinking Africa, you can also go for ethnic, tribal inspired prints.
7. Textured materials
They bring interest to the eye of the viewer and warmth to your space. Hand-woven rattan seats and baskets, bold knitted accessories, rugs with large knots, textures walls …
8. Blush colors
Warm and feminine, but still authentic and clean, earthy shades: terracotta, pale pink, rust, cinnamon and ocher, are here to stay. For a stronger look they are easy to combine with dark berry colors or black.
